Krinkles…by Patience Brewster
As a child I experienced pure pleasure in drawing. As I got older I worked harder and harder at the craft. Art became a tool to change my direction or uplift my mood and a means of communication and expression. My paintings and drawings were assignments in college and eventually they became picture books and cards. Drawing was now my job. For a long time I worked under the influence of various art directors who liked my drawings but could not take the risk of publishing the kind of drawings I wanted to make. It was not until Department 56 took my designs, unaltered, and made the Krinkles exactly as I envisioned them that things changed. It is still my job to draw and design, but between Department 56 and my own card company, it has become more than that. Through notes and letters I have discovered that the thoughts and feelings that I pour into a card or an ornament are clearly reaching you. So drawing is still my job, but it does not feel like work. It is, once again, pure pleasure and it seems, it is a pleasure I can happily share.
